I am no philosopher... but Ive wanted to explain just why I say my political views are moderate ...
Right below moderate political views on my profile, I label myself as a Christian... the meaning of that word is so beyond a label, and for me to explain that , it would need to be a whole nother entry so we won't go there with this one... with my understanding, political views are not standards that you hold for just yourself. They are not merely your "moral code" that you hold yourself accountable to. That is between yourself and God. Because i have "moderate" political views, this does not mean i have 'moderate' moral standards, or that I feel as though its ok to deal with a 'moderate' amount of ... whatever (fill in a word)... point is, we all know just because you have "very conservative" or "very liberal" written as your political views, it doesnt mean your lifestyle reflects that. I didn't know if i needed to clarify that, but it's apparently a common misconception.
In fact, I almost joined a facebook group entitled "Honey your not a Conservative, youre a narrow-minded, spoiled, slut." lol I ended up not... it's still funny though. And you know its funny because its true. I know some "very liberal" people who probably practice a more conservitive life than do some "very conservatives." That proves my point.... its not about that.
I can't say right now whether or not I would get into a situation where getting an abortion would be a choice I could make ... I don't want to think about that ... about getting pregnant and not needing/feeling capable of having a baby ... AKA *ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE* I am definitely not planning on getting pregnant anytime in the near future, if u know me, NO NEED TO WORRY , but if i were being completely honest, I cannot say with certainty that this is not a possibility (ok, no one can... no one that is female can...) The world is something we *cant* control...But what I do know is that I would never choose the option of having one. No matter the reason. I can say with assurance I couldn't allow that to happen. I hate that abortion happens. I hate there's even that availible to people. I hate that even being an option. This example isn't meant to say whether abortion should be legalized. In fact, i will just talk about it as some one wanting to get an abortion, so then it doesn't have to be an issue of legality. Point is ... we shouldn't choose what some one can or can't do. The government should have laws set up with the goal of creating a safe and just environment where people can be free and equal but at the same time not so “free” that if they had the desire to kill some one, they would get away with it. That's the point of laws! The reason why I myself would never have an abortion is based on my faith, but I can't tell other people they “shouldnt” want an abortion either ... they need to be able to choose for themselves. After Adam and Eve, civilization lived/lives in a world full of choices that affects other people, for good or bad. God has pretty well spelled out what is sinful and not. What would be good to do, and what could be harmful. What bring glory to him and what doesn't. We shouldn't be forced to obey God. And God doesn't force us! It is a decision we make! And litterally thank God for that! That we come to know him because we want to. So we should keep the environment God intended for us to have... one where we are free to make the right decision IF WE WANT TO.
People's moral standards is their own deal. I try to hold myself to a pretty high standard, but let's face it, I don't always meet that... in comes religion, but once again can't go there right now ... and this is way too long anyways!
In a perfect world I would love for everyone's values to be very conservative. Wouldn't we all love that? Every where you go you would meet people with nice family values ... but why do we have security systems in stores? why lock your car when you just go to the store just for a second? why? Because WE DON'T ... we don't live in a perfect world ... people with the best intent will never be perfect ... people mess up, and people do things for bad reasons too. It happens. So should we just accept all of the happenings in the world and be ok with it? How is that realistic either?
Do you see the problem? We're being pulled in constant directions... to do what is right, and to hold people accountable, but at the same time be realistic. Know that it's inevitable for people (and YES YOU) to mess up and unfortunately people will intentionally as well ... but we should still love them and show them what IS "right" ... you do this not by turning up our noses and letting them know what they did was wrong, which most humans do have a sense of conciousness and you'll be surprised that they do also feel guilt! (And yes people who aren't necessarily religious have the ability to feel guilt too.....duh)We show them, by embracing their mistake, and their human-ness.
One more thing about religion... I don't care what some one has done to you, how they make you feel, or whatever, we are all called as Christians to love one another. This doesnt mean you have to be friends with them. Maybe you were friends, and now youre not. You don't have to be friends with some one to show them love. We are called to show love to any one we come in contact with (neighbor love)... I don't know the definition of love, but it's not telling some one what horrible thing they did, after they did it, and expecting them to learn from it. It is showing that person how much you care for them, and doing whatever it takes to help her or him out of the rut theyre in.
OK SOOOO I am a MODERATE and a CHRISTIAN and YES the two can coexist!!! This is not the same as Moderately Christian... like a half way Christian!! Nooo it's very different than that and hopefully now you understand why! Yep thats all...
Im gonna end with a quote from my wise pops! He's the smartest guy I know.... “Everything in moderation except moderation, you can never have too much moderation!” He's so smart! And no I'm not like some who just do what theyre parents do, and that's where they get their political views. I actually thought about them. And anyway my dad's probably more liberal than me! Haha Not really, maybe...
